UGC-NET Exam Supreme Court Declines to Delay

Supreme Court refuses to hear plea to postpone UGC-NET exam, 9 lakh candidates are going to appear

On postponing the exam on August 21, a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra said that the government should be questioned

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a new petition filed against the government’s decision to cancel the UGC-NET exam. The petition was filed by some examinees who challenged this government decision after the alleged question paper leak. The apex court said that considering the petition at this time may complicate the situation further. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra said that the government is going to conduct the exam again on August 21, and now it is necessary to have certainty for about nine lakh students.

The CJI refused to consider the petition filed by Praveen Dabas and others, saying that the Supreme Court’s intervention could have serious consequences and lead to widespread chaos. He said that the exam was held on June 18 and was cancelled the very next day. Considering this petition in the current situation will only lead to uncertainty and chaos. He said that after the NEET-UG fiasco, the central government should have been more cautious, so the exam was cancelled. He said that this process should be allowed to continue now.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had also dismissed a PIL on this issue, which was filed by a lawyer. The CJI told the lawyer that let the students come to the court themselves, why are you coming? He said that while dismissing the PIL, the court has not expressed any opinion on the merits of the case.
