Investigation is still going on regarding the UGC NET 2024 paper leak case. Let us tell you that the Union Education Ministry had canceled this exam on June 19. After this the investigation of this matter was handed over to the CBI.
At the same time, now the CBI can file a charge sheet against the youth in this case who allegedly made the ‘tampered’ screenshot of the UGC-NET question paper viral on Telegram. Only after this screenshot, the exam was canceled after receiving an alert about a possible ‘violation’ from the Union Home Ministry.
They said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has not found any large-scale conspiracy in the episode and the charge sheet will be restricted to offences of attempted cheating or cheating.
Officials said the central agency’s probe into the alleged UGC-NET paper leak case found that a school student had tampered with screenshots of the leaked question paper for the June 18 exam.
They said the CBI has informally conveyed its findings to the government and is likely to file a charge sheet against the youth.
Investigation of the case was handed over to the CBI
Over 11 lakh candidates had registered for the exam, which determines eligibility for junior research fellowship, appointment as assistant professor and admission to PhD in Indian universities and colleges.
The Union Education Ministry had cancelled the exam on June 19 following a warning from the Union Home Ministry’s National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
The Ministry of Education had said after the cancellation of the exam, “UGC had received some inputs regarding the exam from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs. These inputs prima facie indicate that the integrity of the said exam has been compromised.”
The investigation of the case was handed over to the CBI. After which it was found that the alleged screenshot of the paper was made by a student of the school using an app. He said that he had changed the date of the screenshot to June 17 to make some money and give people the impression that he had access to the question paper.
He said that the youth tried to give the impression that he could arrange for subject-specific papers to be held later. He informed that the central agency consulted forensic experts, who said that the screenshots have been tampered with.
Sources said that the University Grants Commission had received information from I4C that the paper was available on the darknet and was allegedly being sold on messaging platforms for Rs 5-6 lakh, on the basis of which the exam was cancelled.
